Cause Cinema Spotlight

Moving Pictures, Heroes & Music

Welcome back to the Cause Cinema Spotlight.  As you must know by now, and hopefully you’ve seen the Showcase of 28 Movies we shared earlier this week, we’re celebrating Black History Month!

So let’s kick things off with a great doc, from filmmaker, film critic, and all-around great guy - Elvis Mitchell. Yes, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Elvis so I can say that. He was kind enough to participate in the inaugural Bahamas International Film Festival I helped produce years ago.

IS THAT BLACK ENOUGH FOR YOU?!?

Elvis examines the craft and power of African American films released from the landmark era of the 1970s.  Pushing the envelope whenever possible with these classics. Watch on Netflix.

Next, another personal voice drives a new documentary by Mark Cousins.

THE STORY OF LOOKING

The Story of Looking sees Mark Cousins prepare for surgery to restore his vision. Cousins explores the role that visual experience plays in our individual and collective lives. In a deeply personal meditation on the power of looking in his own life, he guides us through the riches of the visible world, a kaleidoscope of extraordinary imagery across cultures and eras. At a time when we are more assailed by images than ever, he reveals how looking makes us who we are. You can see on AppleTV.

And we’ll stay the course and close with yet another great documentary.

TAKE ME TO THE RIVER: NEW ORLEANS

Take Me to the River: New Orleans celebrates the rich musical history, heritage, legacy, and influence of New Orleans and Louisiana. A true collaboration and melting pot of influences from around the World, that came together and formed one of the world's most unique cultural jewels. Our adventure shows the resiliency of surviving disaster to a formidable rebirth while pairing legacy musicians with stars of today, and how this unique cultural jewel came to exist. Watch on Amazon or AppleTV.

That’s a wrap on this week’s Cause Cinema Spotlight. Stay tuned for our next Showcase, as we share more wonderful documentaries in celebration of Black History Month.

Be well.
