Dreaming Wild, Getting Physical & Inventing Lola

Welcome back to the Cause Cinema Spotlight.

This week, we have a unique combination of period pieces.  From a black and white sci-fi indie, to aerobic workouts, and an inspirational music rediscovery.

Let’s start there with a terrific new film from Roadside Attractions.

Dreamin’ Wild

Dreamin’ Wild, the true story of love and redemption, is about what happened to singer/songwriter Donnie Emerson and his family when the album he and his brother recorded as teens was rediscovered after thirty years of obscurity and was suddenly hailed by music critics as a lost masterpiece. While the album’s rediscovery brings hopes of second chances, it also brings long-buried emotions as Donnie, his wife Nancy, brother Joe, and father Don Sr. come to terms with the past and their newly found fame.

Dreamin’ Wild was just released for limited theatrical run. For Showtimes, click here.

Physical

Season 3 of the Apple hit series - Set in the idyllic but fragile beach paradise of sunny 1980s San Diego, Physical is a half-hour dark comedy following Sheila Rubin, a quietly tortured, seemingly dutiful housewife supporting her smart but controversial husband’s bid for state assembly. But behind closed doors, Sheila has her own darkly funny take on life she rarely lets the world see. She’s also battling a complex set of personal demons relating to her self-image… that is, until she finds release through the unlikeliest source: the world of aerobics. Season two found Byrne having successfully launched her first fitness video only to encounter some new and bigger obstacles on her path. She is torn between loyalty to her husband and the values he represents, and a dangerous attraction to someone else. And since she’s no longer the only game in town, she finds herself having to outrun some fierce new competitors on the road to building a full-fledged fitness empire.

You can see Physical on AppleTV.

And finally, a buzzy indie, hot off a successful festival run.

Lola

While the sisters initially use the machine for small ventures like becoming the first fans of the 1970’s music scene, they soon realize that the machine may hold the key to defeating the Nazis. LOLA proves to be massively effective in shifting the tide of the war, but as Thomasina begins to become carried away with the level of power the machine holds over the future, the sisters soon discover the world-altering consequences of their actions.

Lola was just released in a few theaters, and is also available online.

And that’s a wrap for Cause Cinema Spotlight this week. Enjoy, and share with friends. Save them some time searching for what to watch!
