From France to Asteroid City

And Somewhere Boy In Between

Welcome back to the Cause Cinema Spotlight.

We’ll kick off the summer with some travel adventures.  Some real.  Others imagined. First we head to France, for a new period piece on Hulu.

Chevalier

The illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner, Joseph Bologne rises to improbable heights in French society as a celebrated violinist-composer and fencer, complete with a love affair and falling out with Marie Antoinette.

Next up, a smart, thoughtful, and very stylish series.

Somewhere Boy

A bold and beautiful drama about a sheltered teenager thrust into the world. Danny was just a baby when his mother was killed and his grief-stricken father locked him away to keep him safe. But when Danny turns 18, everything he's ever known explodes in an instant. Suddenly he has to come to terms with a whole new world he didn’t know existed.

Let’s head back to France for an indie festival darling just released.

Scarlet

Shortly after World War I, veteran Raphaël returns home from the frontlines to find himself a widower, and father to an infant daughter. Raised by her father in rural Normandy, the child Juliette grows into a lonely young woman who dreams of greater possibilities. She seeks refuge in the nearby woods, where she meets a witch who promises scarlet sails will one day take her away from her village. Reckoning with her future and swept away by a rakish young pilot who literally falls from the sky, Juliette never stops believing in the witch's prophecy. Tracing Juliette's journey throughout the 20 years of great invention between the world wars, Scarlet delicately weaves together music and fantasy, history and folklore, realist drama and ethereal romance, to craft a timeless story of a young woman's emancipation.

Scarlet is now in limited theatrical release.

This week’s pick from Hollywood on the Green is…

Asteroid City

A fictional American desert town circa 1955.  The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.  Director Wes Anderson brings another all star cast to this striking, imaginary world.

Asteroid City is now in limited theatrical release.

If you missed our video release yesterday, we go Behind the Scenes, where we take a closer look at the unique, stylized world created by Wes Anderson.

Hope you enjoy this week’s picks. Feel free to share with friends who may not know about this channel.

Take care.
