Full Circle, Chile 76 & the Year Between

Welcome back to the Cause Cinema Spotlight.

We’re back with more political strife, a dark comedy masking health challenges, and plenty of international intrigue. Let’s start there, with the latest series from director Steven Soderbergh.

Full Circle

An investigation into a botched kidnapping uncovers long-held secrets connecting multiple characters and cultures in present day New York City.  Director Steven Soderbergh and writer Ed Solomon do a terrific job of juggling this diverse cast and  complex storylines.

You can see Full Circle on Max.

The Year Between

Inspired by true events, college sophomore Clemence Miller is coming home to the suburbs and a bedroom in her family's basement. After dropping out of school with a newly diagnosed mental illness, she now faces the challenges of bipolar disorder, the responsibilities of adulthood, and her damaged relationships with family and friends. Clemence struggles to figure out what it means to heal without driving everyone around her… well, crazy. As if reckoning with everything and everyone she has taken for granted wasn’t enough, Clemence has to wrestle with the thought that on top of it all, she might also just have a really bad personality.

And finally, one of the buzzy titles from the 2022 festival circuit.

Chile '76

Chile, 1976. Carmen heads off to her beach house to supervise its renovation. Her husband, children and grandchildren come back and forth during the winter vacation. When the family priest asks her to take care of a young man he is sheltering in secret, Carmen steps onto unexplored territories, away from the quiet life she is used to.

A heart-pounding thriller about one woman's political awakening, set during the early days of Augusto Pinochet's brutal dictatorship. The film was shot in Spanish, and can be seen with English Subtitles.
