May is one of the biggest months of the Festival season. Of course the Cannes Film Festival will be in full swing, but most of the top distributors and buyers are are already tracking the marquee titles there. Whatever is left. Meetings will be logged, and industry regulars will continue to buy and sell in the Marche.
There are other strong festivals this month, presenting diverse slates of their own. With the continuous growth of streaming platforms and niche players working hard to deliver for their audience, we decided to highlight titles for our industry subscribers. We will emphasize projects with rights still available. You will discover new voices, and stories that resonate.
Entries will include titles, synopsis and link to the film’s website or sales rep. Trailers will follow if available. Film summaries are from the festival guides.
For our film aficionados, note that these projects will rarely be available for streaming at home just yet. Even if the festival has a virtual pass offering, they will typically be geoblocked to their country or region. But do keep these projects on your radar. They will be coming soon, to a screen near you. That may be your regional festival or theater, a local community screening, or to your living room.
