Based on feedback, and a 30-40% open rate on our posts, you appreciate the unique human curation we offer, and prefer it to the run of the mill AI selections fed to you by huge recommendation engines.
It may seem obvious, but the more people who this engaging content reaches, the more awareness, and change, we can create. Studies show that these social impact stories do educate, inform and create change, and so our mission will be to continue to highlight and share the best projects.
For Filmmakers
Based on the principles covered in Filmmaking for Change, I will continue bringing you the data, case studies and current trends in the space. I will take a deeper dive into all the key categories (Development, Production, Distribution, Activation), by adding new sections (see below).
On average, over 5,000 social impact movies (narratives and documentaries) are made annually. Most are not securing adequate festival play, distribution or having the impact on the world, because they don’t find their audiences. I will provide the critical tools and examples to support your current and future projects.
For Industry Professionals
You have shown interest in learning about solid film festival titles that frequently fall through cracks. Therefore, we will expand our tracking to include weekly picks of movies seeking distribution.
We will also continue to dive deep into the independent film landscape, analyzing the streamers, emerging trends and future projections.

New Features for Paying Members:
Cause Cinema - With over 100 film and TV series recommendations since this substack kicked off, I know it can be hard to sort back through so many titles. I will be kicking off the Cause Cinema Index for paying subscribers. Every week, new picks will added to the Index, with the latest recommendations sorted into categories, with links to each of their respective articles (with trailers, synopses, and where to watch links). As a paid subscriber, you’ll never miss (or forget about) a beat, it will all be easily searchable.
Community - The comments and feedback sections for these articles and podcasts will only be open to paying subscribers, to learn more about these projects, engage, and share more ideas and projects.
Filmmaking for Change - These articles will become part of the paying subscriber section, with deep dives into all of the 4 key categories (Development, Production, Distribution, Activation).
Community - As with the general Cause Cinema categories, the Community will be open to paying subscribers, to learn more about these project, engage, and share more ideas and projects.
Q&A - Each month, I will engage in a Q&A session with all the paying subscribers, making myself available to answer any questions about your projects. These sessions will be archived for paying subscribers to review as needed.
Changemakers - We will be introducing a new section, with a combination of Q&A sessions and recorded podcasts with filmmakers, distributors and players in this exciting social impact space.
On the Circuit - We will track the festival beat, reporting on the insights, going behind the scenes. The trades and indie publications cover the top tier festivals, but we will dig deeper some of the smaller players that present many emerging artists and projects seeking distribution.
